Job Description:
- Environment
- Team members work in one of four labs.
- This position works directly with students, faculty and staff to gain
access to lab hardware and software.
- This position performs work with little supervision.
- Hours
- Lab Monitors work a flexible 15 to 30 hour schedule with shifts available
from 8am to 12:00am seven days a week.
- Team members only work when classes are in session.
- Team members must be able to attend staff meetings Fridays from 5:00pm - 6:30pm.
- Type of Work
- Problems range from mundane application "How do I ..." questions
to first-line troubleshooting on lab equipment.
- Lab Monitors identify problems in lab operation and suggest and implement
solutions.
- Lab Monitors should be physically able to lift 50 lbs.
- Vertical Mobility
- After getting this job you can aspire to manage one of the on-going lab
projects.
- You can also gain skills and qualifications that prepare you for other
computing support positions available on campus.
Job Skills:
- Working knowledge of
- PCs and
- Apple computers (Macs, PowerMacs).
- Experience in the use and configuration of
- Windows (NT, 9x, 2000),
- MacOS (v7.x.x-v9.x.x),
- unix (many flavors and versions),
- Novell NetWare (v3.x-v4.x),
- and MS-DOS (v3.x-v7.x).
- Experience in the use of and services offered by:
- CAS General Access Labs
- UNT Computing Center
- CAS Novell File servers (GAB, Wooten, Terrill)
- UNT academic hosts (Jove, Sol, CMS)
- Experience in the use of software such as:
- word processors (WordPerfect, Word),
- spread sheets (Quattro Pro, Excel, Lotus),
- databases (FoxPro, Access, rBase, dBase),
- programming languages (C, C++, Pascal).
- and statistical packages (SAS, SPSS)
