College of Arts and Sciences
General Access Labs
Printing Policies

In order to help keep student fees low and to provide the best service possible to the greatest number of students, the College of Arts and Sciences General Access Labs (CASGAL) has established these guidelines and procedures for printing in the CAS General Access Labs.

Only work which falls under the University's guidelines for meeting the degree requirements for all courses taken at UNT may be printed in General Access Labs.

  • Printing will be provided ONLY to UNT students as it relates to their course work.
  • Faculty members may not print to lab printers unless it is during a class reservation and they are demonstrating a process to the class.
  • Instructors may not print course materials in the labs. All material for courses they are teaching must be printed using the resources of their department.
  • Class notes, course instructions, and Web-based course materials should not be printed in the labs. These materials should be printed by your instructor using departmental resources and handed out in class.
  • All WebCT course materials must be printed duplex (double-sided).
  • All WebCT PowerPoint slides must be printed at least 3 slides per page - lab personnel can assist in setting this up.
  • Internet printing counts as course work only if the Lab Monitor is made aware of the nature of the course from which the print job has been assigned.
  • Students should only print flyers or signs if they are directly related to UNT course work. Printing will be limited to a single copy.

Students are limited to one printout per document.

  • To keep printing costs (and therefore, student fees) low, students are limited to printing one copy of each document.
  • Multiple copies of the same print job are not allowed. Print jobs are considered the same if most of the original printed page is the same.
  • If multiple copies are needed, print one copy and then make all additional copies at the UNT Copy Center.

Students are limited in the number of pages they may print.

  • In labs with only one printer, large documents should be printed in stages (i.e. print pages 1 - 20, then print pages 21 - 40, then pages 41 - 60, etc.). Please ask the lab monitor on duty if you need assistance.
  • Large print jobs should not be printed during peak hours, but should instead be printed during the early mornings, evenings, or weekends.
  • Very large print jobs (more than 100 pages) must be cleared in advance with the Lab Monitor and must be limited to one final copy.
  • Students are responsible for knowing how many pages an Internet document contains BEFORE the print job is executed. Please ask the lab monitor on duty if you need assistance.
  • Users are encouraged to use double-sided printing when available and appropriate.
  • Lab monitors have the right to delete any print job which violates lab printing policies or prevents other customers from receiving their printouts in a timely manner.

Students may only print using available lab resources.

  • All print jobs must originate from inside the labs. TAs may not send print jobs from their offices to the lab printers.
  • Printers will only be loaded with the lab's stock paper.
  • No "special paper" will be loaded into the printers.
  • UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES will students be allowed to print to transparencies.
  • Printouts requiring special paper or transparencies should be printed onto lab stock paper and then taken to the UNT Copy Center to be copied onto the special media.
  • The Lab Manager has the authority to grant special printing requests.

All users must adhere to the CASGAL Printing Policies.

  • Customers found violating Lab Printing Policies will have their printouts confiscated and may be asked to leave the lab.
  • The Lab Manager has the authority to restrict the printing and/or lab access privileges of any person who abuses lab printing policies.
  • The Lab Manager will document abusers of the printing policies and share that information with other Lab Managers on campus.
