General Access Labs
Lab Policies
This is a "short list" of the College of Arts and Sciences General Access Labs (CASGAL)
Lab Policies. It is the responsibility of each lab user to become familiar with all the policies and
procedures of the CAS General Access Labs. CASGAL policies are a superset of the policies and
procedures of UNT and the UNT General Access Labs.
By using the CAS General Access Labs, each person expressly agrees to abide by all
CASGAL Policies and Procedures, the policies and procedures of the
UNT General Access Labs, and the
UNT Policies and Guidelines for Computing.
Absolutely No Food or Drinks Inside the Labs
- All drink containers, even empty ones, must either be placed inside book bags or left
outside the lab. Drink containers may not be visible in the labs.
- Anyone refusing to follow this policy will be asked to leave the lab and may be denied
access to the labs in the future.
Use Assigned Stations
- Customers must use the computer they were assigned when checking into the lab.
- Customers wishing to move to a different station must return to the Check-In Desk and ask to
be reassigned.
- Customers found using a computer they were not assigned to may be asked to leave the lab.
Do Not Install Non-Approved Software on Lab Stations
- All approved software applications required for academic pursuits at UNT are available in the CAS
Software menu.
- If an application needs to be added to the CAS Software menu, contact the CASGAL
Lab Manager or Network
Administrator.
- Installation of non-approved software can cause the computer to function improperly or can
"break" the operating system, rendering the computer useless to other students until
repairs can be made.
- Customers found installing non-approved software on lab stations may have their lab
privileges suspended.
One Person per Computer
- Only one person will be allowed at each computer station so that all users are provided a quiet,
non-distracting environment in which to work.
- One chair is provided per computer. Two people sitting at one computer station removes seating
at another station and prevents its use by another student.
- People working on Group Projects should go to the GAB 550 Computer Lab and request to be assigned
stations in GAB 550K.
One Printout per Document
- It is the customer's responsibility to learn and be aware of
Lab Printing Policies and
Color Printing Policies.
- To keep printing costs (and therefore, student fees) low, students are limited to printing one
copy of each document. If multiple copies are needed, print one copy and then make all additional
copies at the UNT Copy Center.
- All color print jobs must be cleared by the lab monitor on duty before you can receive a
printout.
- Printouts should be limited to no more than 20 pages at a time. Large documents must be printed
in stages (i.e. print pages 1 - 20, then print pages 21 - 40, then pages 41 - 60, etc.). Please
ask the lab monitor if you need assistance.
- Lab monitors have the right to delete any print jobs which violate lab printing policies or which
prevents other customers from receiving their printouts in a timely manner.
- Faculty and TAs may not print course work in the labs. All material for courses they are
teaching must be printed using the resources of their department.
- Customers found disregarding printing policies will be asked to leave and may be denied
access to the labs in the future.
