HOWTO: Perform OCR (Optical Character Recognition) on CAS GAL
computers
PC: Windows 2000
1. Launch
Adobe Acrobat 6.
2. Choose
File -> Create PDF -> From Scanner
3. Leave
default settings; click "Scan".
Acrobat
will now import the scanned image as a PDF.
4. Choose
Document -> Paper Capture -> Start Capture
5. Under
Settings, change "PDF Output Style" to "Formatted text and
graphics"
6. Click
OK.
Now
you can save the recognized text as plain text (TXT), MS Word (DOC),
etc..
Macintosh OS X
Note: these will change once I figure out why the ScanWizard Plugin
won't work with Acrobat 6.
1. Scan the image in using ScanWizard; save it as a TIFF.
2. Open Acrobat 6.
3. Choose File -> Create PDF -> From File.. open the TIFF
file you just created.
4. Choose Document -> Paper Capture -> Start Capture
5. Under Settings, change "PDF Output Stlye" to "Formatted text and
graphics"
6. Click OK.
Now
you can save the recognized text as plain text (TXT), MS Word (DOC),
etc..
