General Description

Research Methods introduces graduate students to the research tools of the lingusitics, language acquisition, and ESL professions. During the first part of the semester, we will concentrate on library resources, APA standards for documentation and reference, and experimental design. We will also begin work in the Technical Writing Laboratory (TWLAB), located on the third floor of the Auditorium Building, and we will learn the basics of word processing and the use of linguistic databases (for acquisition). During the last part of the semester, we will solve problems that require both basic statistical measures and work with linguistic databases.

 

Grade Determination

I will determine your grade in this course based on the following criteria:

All written assignments, including the homework assignments, must be done strictly according to APA standards. The week-by-week plan includes specific deadlines for completion of work. Take these deadlines very seriously!
