This coming weekend, associate professor Teresa Marrero, from the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures, will premiere La Familia, a series of monologues for adults, at the Bath House Cultural Center in Dallas. The work is based on her book Entre la Argentina y Cuba: cuentos nómadas de viajes y tangos (Between Argentina and Cuba: Nomad Stories of Travels and Tangos).

According to Marrero, the central character is a fetus who does not want to be born. During the monologues, the fetus speaks from the womb, her existence tying together the lives of eight others, some of whom are strangers. In the process of telling their stories, this “family” invites the audience to connect the links that tie them all together.

Teresa Marrero is not only the author of the play but its co-director. She has been with Cambalache Teatro since its inception last year.

In addition to this book and play, Marrero’s publications include the anthology Out of the Fringe, Contemporary Latina/Latino Plays and Performance, which she co-edited.

La Familia will be performed at the Bath House Cultural Center Dallas, 521 E. Lawther Drive, Dallas TX 75218 on Friday, Nov. 6, and Saturday, Nov. 7 at 8:00 p.m. There will be a matinee Sunday, Nov. 8 at 3:00 p.m. followed by a Q & A session. Tickets are $8 for seniors and students, and $12 for adults.
